I have to say, I was skeptical when it comes to remote study. But nevertheless, I chose to start with this training being a product manager. Still living in China I have started this eduction last February 2017. After setting everything up with Akad by email, I really have to admit, this company is very professional and was supporting me very well. Since at this time we lived in Shenyang, Northeast of China, they sent all the training books to my place in China. Of course if was not cheap, but it was worth it. After I received all the material (23 books with around 80 pages each) I need to make my plan how I will be disciplined enough to really study regularly.
Remote study is a good thing, when it comes to being flexible with the time plan, but it is challenging when it comes to overcome the inner temptation. But nevertheless, I set myself a plan to study every evening from 22.00h to 23.00h and also to make the homework afterwards. So was it, after coming home from hard working at BMW and playing with my daughter, I was studying in my books instead of lying around, being the couch potato and watching TV. It is a good investment in time, if you study for yourself. I have to tell everybody of you, what are you doing after work from 18.00h until 24.00h, are you fooling around and wasting time or are you investing the time into something really worthy? Ask yourself.....
Anyway, I was really disciplined and studied every night, during the weekend I gave myself some break. Then it came the time, when we decided to return to Switzerland. This meant of course, preparing 1000 things to settle everything, packing the stuff and return to Switzerland. After arriving in Switzerland, I needed to take care of another 2000 things, like finding a new apartment (also for my wife, daughter and me), arranging a lot of administrative things and starting a new very interesting and challenging job. But beside this, I never forgot to study, because I knew I am doing this for me. And since this eduction being a product manager is really very interesting and brought up a lot of new topics to me, I really enjoyed it. So the investment and planning was really worth it!
In a nutshell, I can really recommend doing this for your own development even if you have a lot of things beside to take care of! With the right attitude you are able to do it.
